Donna Koch

Photography has been always been a part of Donna’s life, but about three years ago she was close to putting her camera down for good. Then she discovered a whole new way to create through the lens of my camera. She is in constant awe of nature, of the forest and the trees. Each photo she takes represents the feeling, the beauty and the hidden surprise that lies through the lens of my camera. All are created in camera beginning with a ‘feeling’, a knowing – there is more than meets the eye.

Donna likes to create with multiple exposure, camera movement of differing degrees, layered at times with stillness, allowing each photo to bring to life all that is possible if we just slow, stop and stay a little while.

Growing up amid Ukraine’s cultural revival, she pursued studies in fine art, illustration, and design—earning a degree in Graphic Art and a Bachelor’s in Interior Design. She began my career as a book illustrator and designer in her hometown of Kyiv, where she developed a distinctive artistic style shaped by two key influences: traditional Ukrainian folk art and abstract painting with alcohol ink.

Her creative journey took a profound turn in 2022 when the Russian invasion of Ukraine forced her to flee to Canada. Now based in Kelowna, she has become an active contributor to the local art scene. She painted a public piano in the traditional Ukrainian Petrykivka style for the city’s Pianos in Parks initiative and created murals for the Ukrainian store Ready to Cook at both Orchard Park and District malls.

Niki’s creative journey started in India and has taken her across the US and Canada, with experiences in animation, art therapy, and design- all of which shapes how she works today. The ocean has always been her biggest inspiration — she’s drawn to its movement, depth, and the way light dances across the water. In her studio, she uses resin, pigments, and texture to bring that same feeling to life in my sculptures. Each piece is meant to capture a moment of calm and connection, like pausing to watch a wave roll in. It’s about creating art that not only looks beautiful, but also stirs a memory or feeling every time you see it.
